성균관대학교에서 한국문학과 데이터사이언스를 전공했고, 지금은 한국학중앙연구원에서 인문정보학(디지털인문학)을 공부한다. 연구소 일원으로서 한국 근현대 소설을 구조화하고 소설의 상호참조를 다국어로 다루는 등 문학을 기계가 읽을 수 있는 데이터로 만드는 인문학적 데이터 구축에 기여하고 있다. 개인적 연구 관심사로는 문학상 데이터로 비평의 기능이 전이·확산되는 양상을 살피거나 지금까지 문학적 재현의 대상으로 다뤄진 적 없는 파라텍스트로서의 ‘띠지’에 내재한 권위를 읽는 등, AI와 데이터를 문학 해석에 끌어들이면서 문학사회학의 관점에서 작가·독자·AI가 맺는 관계에 관심을 둔다. 궁극적으로는 기술이 삶의 조건으로 깊이 스며드는 가운데 전통적 인문학의 인식론적 한계를 벗어나는 전환을 꾀하고, 나아가 기술의 물질성과 그 문학적·학술적 재현 사이에 생기는 공백을 발견하는 실천적 비평 연구를 지향한다. 글쓰기 기계의 서술 권력이 문학에서 재현되는 방식을 분석하거나, 기술이 물질성을 잃고 자연처럼 배경이 된 세계를 문학이 어떻게 그려내는지를 한국 SF의 문화적 맥락 속에서 읽고자 한다.

I majored in Korean literature and data science at Sungkyunkwan University and now study cultural informatics—digital humanities—at the Academy of Korean Studies. As a member of my institute, I contribute to humanities data-building—structuring modern Korean fiction and handling coreference in fiction across languages—turning literature into data that machines can read. In my own research, I bring AI and data into literary interpretation, taking an interest, from the standpoint of the sociology of literature, in the relation among author, reader, and AI: reading literary-award data to see how the function of criticism transfers and diffuses, or reading the authority embedded in the “belly-band,” a paratext never before treated as an object of literary representation. Ultimately, as technology sinks ever deeper into the conditions of life, I attempt a turn beyond the epistemological limits of traditional humanities and, further, pursue a practical critical practice that uncovers the voids opening between the materiality of technology and its literary and scholarly representation. Within the cultural context of Korean science fiction, I want to read how the narrative power of writing machines is represented in literature, and how literature depicts a world in which technology has lost its materiality and receded into the background like nature.
